Monday Marriage Moments {Hiding a Note}

-We love marriage just as much as we love weddings. Take a moment to prepare not just for the wedding, but for the marriage-

I always wondered, what is the male equivalent of buying flowers? You know if you just want to let a girl know that you’re thinking about her or that you love her, you can always randomly buy her flowers. But what can a girl do for a guy? A box of chocolates? Maybe for some guys, but not Paul. If I buy Paul a box of chocolates he appreciates it and all, but he eats a couple pieces and guess who ends up eating the rest? Yeah, me. It’s more a like a gift for myself, and he knows it.

I wanted to do something nice for Paul, like buying flowers, but knew he wouldn’t appreciate a dozen roses as I would.  I wrote him a little note. Nothing extravagant just one or two lines about how much I love and admire him. Then I hid it in his drawer underneath the top t-shirt. I figured he would find it later that night while getting ready for bed and he would love me for it. Well he did not find it that night. As a matter of fact he didn’t find it the next couple nights. I even went back to the drawer and looked under the top shirt again to make sure it was still there. It was still there. Should I just show it to him? Or move it to the top of the clothes? No, it would be more interesting to find it in the middle… I just had to be patient. FINALLY, after three day of testing my patience he found the note. He said, “When did you put this here?” he was pleasantly surprised, came over and gave me a big hug and kiss. Success.

Paul has told me how much he likes it when I leave him an unexpected note. It makes him feel loved and appreciated, and it gives me an opportunity to tell him how I feel about him. I don’t always remember to do this for him, or  remember to let him know what a good husband he is, but when I do I’m always glad that I did. For his sake, and mine. So maybe the male equivalent of buying flowers is not buying anything at all, but just taking a minute to write and hide a note, just because.

Would you like it if your fiance(e) or spouse wrote you a note? Is there another small act of kindness your significant other does for you that makes you feel special?
